"Welcome to the Separation Party of Alberta website. This party and this site were created first and foremost for all Albertans.

Please take the time to objectively review our site to put yourself in a position to honestly determine if our concerns are meritous or frivolous. I believe you will find our concerns have merit even if you are a strong Canadian Nationalist.

Rest assured, it takes many tragic occurrences to turn a once proud Canadian into an Alberta Separatist. I won't bore you with a Canadian history lesson dating back to Pierre Elliot Trudeau but I will tell you that putting 13 Alberta farmers in jail for selling their own grain, something that central Canadian farmers can do, pushed me off the fence and led to the formation of this party.

Many supporters felt we should call our party "The Alberta Party" or "The Alberta First Party" or anything that does not include the word "separation". I convinced the Founding Committee that Albertans had been lied to by politicians long enough and, as a refreshing change, our name should reflect, beyond the shadow of a doubt, who we are and what we stand for.

Meaningful change is impossible within Canadian Confederation given the constraints in our Canadian Constitution. Separation is the only viable alternative and will give Alberta to Albertans.

Again, for the sake of your loved ones, please take the time to study our website and put yourself in a position to make an informed decision on your future and the future of Alberta.

    Thank You."

  • R. B. (Bruce) Hutton's Biography

  • Raymond Bruce Hutton was born July 2, 1946 at Minnedosa, Manitoba.
  • His ancestors emigrated to Ontario in the 1700s as United Empire Loyalists from the United States of America and later migrated to Manitoba.
  • His father, Ross Logan Hutton (deceased December 25, 2003) was a WWII Veteran, a journeyman electrician, President - International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in Manitoba, President - Alberta Electrical Contractors Association, Vice President - Newberry Energy of California, and President - St. Albert Legion, St. Albert, Alberta. His mother, Muriel Margaret (Beddome) Hutton, currently resides in St. Albert, Alberta. A proud homemaker, she was married to Ross Logan Hutton for 57 years with two sons - Ross William (who died of cancer at the age of 40) and Raymond Bruce.
  • Bruce is a widower; his wife of 25 years, Virginia Pearl (Javos) Hutton of Nampa, Alberta, died of cancer in 2002 at the age of 51.
  • His children are: Marisa Lynn Hutton of Lloydminster, Alberta; Ryan Bruce Hutton of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta; Guylaine Lise Hutton of Red Deer, Alberta.
  • Bruce attained Grade 12 Senior Matriculation at Aden Bowman Collegiate, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 1963, followed by University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, College of Engineering - first year 1964; Basic Training, RCMP, 1967; Advanced education: Reality courses in the "School of a Great Life."
  • Bruce is more fortunate than most as he had three lifetime career opportunities - Northern Telecoms, Saskatchewan Government Telephones and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The entrepreneurial spirit in Bruce led him to choose self-employment in small business over long term job security. Bruce owned a number of small businesses in Alberta including Thundercraft Enterprises, Alta Arctic Adjusters, The Top Shop, Pockets, Promo Image and Rack 'n Roll, between 1972 and the present.
  • Bruce volunteered as a minor hockey coach in Saskatchewan and Alberta from 1965 to 1983 when he turned professional.  In 1981 his Grimshaw D.B. King Midgets  won the Alberta Provincial Midget "C" Championship.  He coached and managed hockey professionally in the Alberta Junior Hockey League, starting with the Hobbema Hawks in 1983 and ending with the Olds Grizzlys in 1987.  He represented Canada internationally on a coaching exchange with the National Hockey Team, the National Junior Team and Chi Chi Har, a first division team, in the People's Republic of China.  He has been fortunate enough to be chosen to coach a number of Alberta's elite hockey teams including the 1992 Arctic Winter Games Midget team.
  • Raised a small "c" Conservative, capital "c" Canadian by a WW II Veteran who flew the Union Jack until his passing, Bruce stayed abreast of political activity in Canada, but never became involved even though he was often frustrated with federal and provincial political developments.
This changed in November of 1999 with the implementation of Bill-C68 - the Firearms Act.  Bruce founded the "Law-abiding Unregistered Firearms Association (LUFA) to organize the firearms community to force the repeal of what he described as "...a catastrophic waste of tax-payers money that would do nothing to reduce crime, violence and suicides."  In January 1999, he warned the Canadian people that the Firearms Act would cost over 1.5 billion dollars ($1,500,000,000.00)  and do nothing to make Canada safer.  He was chastised by the mainstream media, Edmonton Liberal MP Anne McLellan, Liberal Justice Minster Alan Rock and it was publicly stated that Bruce had no idea what he was talking about.  History has resolved this issue as we now know the cost is well over 2 billion dollars ($2,000,000,000.00).
In October 2002 the Federal Liberal Government put 13 Alberta farmers in jail for doing what Central Canadian farmers are allowed to do - sell their own product.  This political injustice and social atrocity pushed Bruce off the fence.   He could no longer sit idly by watching the obvious double standards that Alberta and other Western Canadian provinces are forced to endure.  In February 2003, Bruce met with Jim Chatenay of Pine Lake and Ron Duffy of Lacombe, two of the jailed Alberta farmers,  and it was decided that a concerted effort would be made to establish a registered separatist party in Alberta.  Hence, the evolution of the Separation Party of Alberta (SPA).
  • Hutton currently resides in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta and functions as the volunteer leader of SPA.  "We are looking for that strong leader to come forth.  When suitable candidates identify themselves, SPA will have it's first Leadership Convention.  We are looking for someone who cares about Alberta, not their own personal agenda.  We are not interested in any political retread looking to rejuvenate his or her failed political career.  We want someone who has vision, can "think outside the box" and has a plan for a strong, vibrant, independent Alberta," states Hutton.

  • "It has been said the Separation Party of Alberta accomplished in 16 months that which took the Parti Quebecois 16 years to achieve. It has also been said that we have the cart before the horse - forming the political party before the movement gains strength." Message From the Founder mailed September 2005
