candidate, because you will need the official prerequisites. Applicant must be eligible to vote in an Alberta Provincial election.
Applicant, at the date of nomination, must be a Member of SPA, a
Canadian citizen and a resident of Alberta for at least three consecutive
years immediately prior to nomination, duly proven by documentation.
Applicant must adhere to, and be signatory to, the Policies and Principles of the Separation Party of Alberta.
Applicant must submit a written submission outlining why he/she wants to be the Party Leader, what they bring to the position and their vision of an independent Alberta.
Applicant must submit a one thousand dollar ($1,000.00) non-refundable donation to the Separation Party of Alberta with the written submission.
Applicant must be nominated in writing no later than thirty (30)
days prior to the date of
the first ballot of the leadership election, by at least one hundred (100) Members who shall come from no fewer than
forty (40) recognized Constituency Associations.
Applicant must complete detailed application form. (This detailed application form will be supplied by the office
of the Separation Party of Alberta upon receipt of the required written presentation and a certified cheque
for one thousand dollars ($1,000.00), marked "Non-refundable donation", made payable to the Separation Party of Alberta.)
Short-listed Applicants must make oral presentation to Selection Committee and participate in a question and
answer session with Selection Committee.
Successful leadership candidates will participate in the leadership race that will commence when suitable
candidates are identified.
The date of voting in a leadership election shall occur at the earliest convention date but not earlier than
three (3) months and not later than six (6) months after the date on which the Provincial
Directors call for such leadership election.
Only those who have been SPA Members for at least thirty (30) days immediately prior to the
effective date of voting in a leadership election are eligible to vote.
The election of a Leader shall be by secret ballot.
The Provincial Board of Directors shall make rules and regulations for the leadership election and shall appoint:
(i) five (5) Members to act as the Leadership Election Organization Committee, one of whom
must be from the Provincial Directors;
(ii) a Chief Election Officer; and
(iii) a Returning Officer for each of the provincial electoral districts to administer the leadership
election.
The Provincial Board of Directors may determine reasonable spending limits for a leadership contest.
